At a time when towns are
scrambling to acquire land in order to preserve open space, we are lucky to have
an existing piece of natural beauty in our community.
Indeed, the scenery is priceless, but it also serves a much more
important purpose. Today, every
which way you turn new buildings, homes and parking lots are being built.
To maintain our quality of life, we need to protect our undeveloped land
which plays a vital part in providing us with one of the most basic necessities
of life: water. Open space
is necessary in order to provide water to the underground aquifers, which in
turn, supply our wells with clean drinking water.
As more and more land is developed, many communities fear that the
quality of the drinking water will lessen and supplies will be limited.
The existence of Rock Ridge Community Club aids the cause of maintaining
sufficient open space. Denville is
an amazing town, having so many lakes within its borders, and Rock Ridge is
proud to be one of them, helping to preserve the country like quality of the
area.
Rock
Ridge Lake is valued for its
environmental benefits not only by us but also by our animal friends.
Over the years, Rock Ridge Lake has been a home, permanent and temporary,
for many species of animals. Nowadays,
some of the commonly seen wildlife are deer, woodchuck, rabbit, gray squirrel,
chipmunk, turtle, frog, mallard duck, Canadian geese, swan, great blue heron,
green heron, and a wide variety of fish and other birds.
The more elusive ones include beaver, muskrat, weasel, fox, snake,
kingfisher, osprey, cormorant, wood duck, pintail duck, hooded merganser duck,
wild turkey, owl, hawk, falcon, vulture and the occasional black bear.
The following pictures speak for themselves.
